Having enjoyed many of his works, McQueen continues to demonstrate his directing and talent as his approach to this World War II drama offers interesting and beautifully presented atmospheres.
Many of the costumes, sound designs, dialogues, and soundtrack are very good and fit the period setting
As for the performances, they are all very good, especially those of Elliott Heffernan and Saoirse Ronan, who gave fantastic performances.
Because of this, the character involvement doesn’t really feel engaging
Stories about World War II have been overrated in the past, and while McQueen offers a fresh take and observation of the period, I was a bit disappointed with the story because, unlike McQueen’s usual style and approach, it felt more tame and really predictable, which ended up being a bit boring at times.
At times, it almost doesn’t feel like a Steve McQueen film
While some of the pacing could also be improved, overall it’s still interesting at times and I’m always looking forward to seeing what McQueen can bring to the table.
