A modern day story about making a fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs

A Landman, at least someone who is in the Petroleum industry works, acting as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and make contracts with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent.
They are also problem solvers and mediators, as quoted in CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #4424 (2022)
Essentially, they manage the land and secure their leases so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (the men’s camp), assemble the excavation machines, and drill the well themselves, especially in remote locations. Landman is my first Taylor Sheridan series, so as a Yellowstone fan, I obviously don’t have such expectations.

The main plot so far is engaging and exciting, without being too over the top. There are a few subplots that play out well throughout the episodes, but perhaps one of them detracts from the overall quality of the series. The visual production is outstanding; the direction and environmental design are a delight.
The cast develops their characters well
It would be interesting to hear the opinions of people who work in the industry on how realistic the field scenes are. Billy Bob Thornton is exemplary and drives the series very well. Overall a very good series, well implemented visually and excellently acted.
